Introduction to Our Town

Asbury Park, New Jersey has a long and storied history as a hub of music and culture. In the 1970s and 1980s, the town was known for its vibrant rock scene and attracted numerous big-name acts which played host to artists, like Bruce Springsteen and Bon Jovi, to its clubs and venues. However, by the 1990s, Asbury Park had fallen on hard times and struggled with economic decline and social issues. In recent years, however, Asbury Park has undergone a revival through consistently fostering a wealth of talented musicians and bands, becoming a thriving hub of music and culture once again. There are a number of factors that have contributed to this revival, including:

  • Investment in the local music scene: In the last decade, Asbury Park has seen a number of initiatives aimed at supporting and promoting the local music scene. This has included the development of new music venues, the creation of music festivals and events, and the launch of initiatives like Telegraph Hill Records, which has helped to bring new talent to the forefront.

  • Investment in the local community: Alongside investment in the music scene, Asbury Park has also seen significant investment in other areas of the local community. This has included the development of new housing, the revitalization of key landmarks and buildings, and the creation of new public spaces and amenities. All of these investments have helped to create a more vibrant and attractive community, which in turn has helped to draw more people to the area.

  • Positive media attention: Asbury Park's revival has also been helped by positive media attention, which has helped to promote the town as a destination for music, culture, and tourism. This has included coverage in major publications and on television and radio, as well as through social media and online platforms.

One organization that has played a key role in supporting and promoting the music of Asbury Park is Telegraph Hill Records. Founded by President and Producer Joseph Pomarico, Telegraph Hill Records has been recording and promoting the sounds of the Asbury Park music scene since 2009. In addition to his work with Telegraph Hill Records, Pomarico is also a recording engineer for Atlantic Records. In 2022, Pomarico was recognized for his contributions to the music industry when he won the NJ Stage Magazine Makin Waves Awards Producer of the Year.

Telegraph Hill Records is a small independent label that is dedicated to representing the unique and diverse musical talent of the Asbury Park area. The label works closely with its artists to help them develop their craft and reach new audiences, providing professional audio engineering and production services to ensure the highest quality recordings. Among its roster of artists, Telegraph Hill Records is proud to represent two musicians who are descendants of legendary acts - Alexander Simone, grandson of Nina Simone, and Jarod Clemons, son of Clarence Clemons of the E Street Band.

In today's digital age, it can be challenging for independent artists to get their music heard amidst the noise of the music industry. Telegraph Hill Records understands this challenge and has developed a range of contemporary marketing and promotional strategies to help its artists stand out and connect with new audiences. From social media campaigns to press and radio outreach, the label is always looking for new ways to get its artists' music in front of a wider audience.

One of the key ways that Telegraph Hill Records has been able to support its artists is by covering their production costs and working closely with them to ensure that their music is of the highest quality. This helps to ensure that the label's artists have the resources they need to create timeless, well-crafted recordings that will stand the test of time.

In addition to helping its artists with the production and promotion of their music, Telegraph Hill Records also provides assistance with touring and merch promotion. The label understands that live performances and merchandise sales are crucial for many musicians, and works with its artists to help them build and engage with their fanbase on and off the stage.
